Measure R Progress Update: September 2026
Measure R planning continues to advance across La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District, with September focused on evaluating next steps for Pescadero Middle/High School and refining plans for modernization and a new Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten building at Pescadero Elementary School.
At its September 10, 2026, meeting, the Board of Trustees received an update on both efforts and the work planned for the coming months.
Pescadero Middle/High School: Moving From Study to Strategy
Following completion of the recent seismic investigation at Pescadero Middle/High School, the District is moving into the next phase of analysis and long-term planning.
As previously shared, the investigation identified likely fault traces across portions of the campus and limited areas that may be available for possible future development. These findings provide important information, but they do not determine what ultimately will happen at the site.
During September and October, the District plans to file the seismic study with the California Geological Survey, begin conversations with appropriate state agencies and continue working with the District's bond team to better understand what construction or modernization may be possible at the site.
The team will also evaluate potential eligibility for State School Facility Program funding, including possible hardship funding, and consider how Measure R resources should be set aside for future middle/high school projects. A progress report is planned for the Board in November.
This work is an important step toward understanding the District's options before decisions are made about future improvements to the campus. Community engagement will continue to be an important part of this process as the District learns more, evaluates potential options and considers the long-term future of the Pescadero Middle/High School site.
Pescadero Elementary: Refining the Preschool/TK/K Project
Planning also continues for the Pescadero Elementary School modernization and new PreschoolTK/K building.
As the project moves further into design, the District and project team are evaluating additional potential locations for the new building on the existing campus. The September Board presentation reviewed two potential locations, each with different opportunities and challenges related to classroom proximity, play areas, utilities, campus supervision, construction impacts and future campus use.
For example, one location would place the Preschool/TK/K building closer to existing classrooms and staff areas, while another could take advantage of existing utilities and play space. The second location, near the garden and open field area, was viewed favorably by teachers and could provide an opportunity for additional campus fencing, but would require relocating a portion of the new play area. On September 22, the District shared a survey with staff, families and community members to gather input on both proposed locations. The survey closes Wednesday, September 30.
The District is carefully considering these factors before finalizing the location and design. The current total project budget for the new Preschool/TK/K project is approximately $5 million.
Looking Ahead
From September through November/December, the District expects to continue analysis, strategy and community engagement related to the Pescadero Middle/High School site while completing the design package for Pescadero Elementary projects.
Upcoming work also includes preparing requests for proposals/qualifications for the Pescadero Elementary modernization work and new building, selecting a general contractor and modular building firm, and beginning pre-construction and the initial filing process with the Division of the State Architect.
As planning advances, the District will continue creating opportunities to keep students, families, staff and the broader community informed and engaged. The District remains committed to thoughtful planning, transparency and responsible stewardship of Measure R resources.
