Measure R Summer Progress Update: July 2026
La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District continues advancing Measure R projects focused on creating safe, modern learning environments while responsibly planning for the future of our schools.
Pescadero Elementary Modernization
The district continues making progress on the modernization of Pescadero Elementary School following recent Board direction to proceed with planning for Option 2, which includes construction of a new Preschool & Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten (TK/K) building. Earlier this year, the Board dedicated approximately $5.8 million toward Pescadero Elementary modernization efforts, including construction and project development costs.
Planning efforts this summer have focused on refining site layouts, construction sequencing, and project cost estimates. Current plans include:
Construction of new Preschool & TK/K classrooms
Campus safety improvements, including new fencing and gates
Wayfinding improvements to improve campus navigation
Future opportunities to modernize or repurpose existing buildings as funding becomes available
District staff also continue evaluating potential site configurations that best support student learning while minimizing construction impacts during the school year.
Middle/High School Fault Study
Work also continues on the seismic fault investigation at Pescadero Middle/High School.
Following the start of trenching activities in June, engineers have completed the initial site analysis and excavation of the first exploratory trench. A fault was identified during the first phase of investigation, and work has continued with a second trench to further evaluate site conditions. These studies will provide important information to engineers and geologists as they determine future facility planning and potential construction options.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming months, the district will:
Continue the Middle/High School fault study and engineering analysis.
Further refine plans for the new Preschool & TK/K building at Pescadero Elementary School.
Continue evaluating project costs, site layouts, and future modernization opportunities.
Provide ongoing updates to the Board of Trustees and community as Measure R projects advance.
La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District remains committed to transparency, responsible stewardship of Measure R resources, and investing in safe, modern learning environments that will serve students and the community for years to come.
