Michelle Ross, Superintendent
We want to provide our families, staff, and community with an update regarding the proposed Multi-Purpose Room project at Pescadero Middle/High School.
As previously shared, the district has been conducting a required seismic safety study to ensure future bond-funded facilities are located in the safest possible areas of campus.
Following a review of the initial trenching and site analysis by the California Geological Survey, geologists identified indications of faulting within the area where the MPR building was originally planned. As a result, the proposed building location is no longer considered feasible.
While this is disappointing news, the purpose of the study is to identify potential geological concerns before construction begins. This work helps ensure that future facilities meet California's safety standards and are built in the safest possible location.
The Board has authorized additional trenching and analysis in a second area of the campus to determine whether an alternative location can be cleared for construction. Preliminary findings from a portion of the first trench showed no evidence of faulting, providing some reason for cautious optimism, but additional investigation is needed before any conclusions can be reached.
At this time, it is too early to determine the impact on the project's timeline or cost. We will continue to keep our community informed as additional information becomes available.
Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this process. Our commitment remains the same: ensuring any future facility is safe, compliant, and serves students for generations to come.
