Measure R Summer Progress Update: May 2026

As the school year comes to a close, La Honda Pescadero Unified School District continues advancing Measure R projects focused on safety, long-term planning, and improving school facilities.

Middle/High School Safety Study Update

Preparations are underway for the summer seismic safety study at Pescadero Middle/High School, including trenching and field exploration activities expected to begin in June.

This study will help engineers and geologists better understand site conditions and guide future facility planning and construction decisions. Work will continue throughout the summer and includes trenching, engineering analysis, and final reporting.

During portions of the work, community members may notice temporary fencing, equipment, and construction activity on campus. All work areas will remain secured and clearly marked for safety. We expect the trenching project to initiate on site starting June 8 and running through the month of July. The project is targeted for completion prior to the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Pescadero Elementary School Modernization Planning

Planning and project development also continue for future improvements at Pescadero Elementary School.

Based on community input, facility assessments, and ongoing site evaluations, the district is refining priorities and project scope focused on:

  • Classroom and learning environment improvements

  • Campus safety and security enhancements

  • Infrastructure modernization and building system upgrades

Potential improvements under evaluation continue to include HVAC upgrades, roofing and siding repairs, painting and waterproofing, and safety improvements such as fencing.

The district is also exploring phased approaches that prioritize the most critical facility needs first while planning for future improvements over time. The District’s Board of Trustees will review and recommend specific improvement projects and strategies at its June Board meeting.

Exploring Additional Funding Opportunities

Alongside local Measure R funding, the district continues evaluating potential state modernization and small school district funding opportunities through Proposition 2 programs.

These efforts are intended to help maximize available resources and support long-term facility improvements districtwide.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming months, the district will:

  • Continue seismic study activities throughout the summer

  • Further refine modernization recommendations for Pescadero Elementary School

  • Evaluate additional funding opportunities

  • Provide future updates to the Board of Education and community

LHPUSD remains committed to transparency, responsible stewardship of Measure R funds, and continued investment in safe and supportive learning environments for students.
