Michelle Ross, Superintendent
Work continues across the district as we move forward with Measure R projects focused on safety, planning, and improving learning environments for students.
Middle/High School Safety Study Update
As previously shared, a seismic safety study is required at Pescadero Middle/High School following updated state guidance. This step is essential to ensure future buildings are placed in the safest possible locations on campus.
Trenching, a key part of this study, is now scheduled to begin in summer 2026 and will take place over several weeks.
The work will happen in phases, including site preparation, trenching and field exploration, engineering analysis, and final reporting.
During this time, families and community members may notice equipment and temporary fencing on campus. All work areas will be clearly marked and secured to ensure safety.
This important work allows experts to look below the surface to understand ground conditions, identify any fault lines, and determine where it is safest to build in the future. In some cases, crews may expand trenching while on-site to gather additional information efficiently and avoid delays later.
Pescadero Elementary School Planning Update
Simultaneously, the district is moving forward with plans to improve Pescadero Elementary School.
In March, families, staff, and community members came together to share input on what matters most. That feedback is already helping guide next steps.
Top priorities included:
Improving classrooms and learning environments
Enhancing safety and security
Additional themes included equity in resources, extracurricular opportunities, and long-term fiscal responsibility.
Based on this input and site assessments, the district is developing a modernization plan focused on the most critical needs. Potential improvements include:
Heating and ventilation (HVAC) upgrades
Roofing and siding repairs
Painting and waterproofing
Safety upgrades, including improved fencing
The district is also working toward a recommended project budget of approximately $5.8 million to begin this work, focusing first on the most urgent needs while planning for future phases.
What Happens Next
In the coming months, the district will:
Begin the middle/high school seismic study and trenching in summer 2026
Continue refining plans for Pescadero Elementary improvements
Bring project recommendations to the Board of Education
Keep the community informed along the way
Our Commitment
We know these projects matter to our students, families, and community. LHPUSD remains committed to careful planning, safety, and transparency as we invest in our schools and our future.
