Ensuring safe drinking water for students and staff remains a top priority for La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District. The following provides an overview of the changes, actions taken, and next steps to ensure continued access to safe drinking water.
The district had been receiving bottled water through a grant with the Rural Community Assistance Corporation. It was expected that the grant would provide service until the project was finalized. However, the CSA-11 connection was completed two months ahead of schedule. Unfortunately, the district received twenty four hours notice of termination of the bottled water supply. We were able to provide district purchased water and pumps to disperse at the high school.
In response to the bottled water supply ending, the district evaluated next steps to ensure continued access to safe drinking water. Although the water had been tested and certified that it was now safe to drink, there were concerns about the safety of long unused pipes in the high school. Out of an abundance of caution, the district will continue to provide bottled water at its own expense until new water filling stations are in place.
The district has been working with Simms Plumbing to source, order, and install water filling stations in the high school. The installation is scheduled for the April spring break week, April 13th through 17th. Once the filling stations are in place, students and staff will begin drinking the water at the high school site.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ross, Superintendent LHPUSD
