Measure R Program Outlook: March 2026
As shared in the February Measure R update, the district is required to complete a detailed seismic fault investigation at Pescadero Middle/High School following the updated California Geological Survey Alquist-Priolo fault zone map released in November 2025.
Next Step: Fault Investigation Trenching
As part of this required process, trenching work is scheduled to take place during Spring Break, April 13 - 17, 2026, to ensure minimal disruption to teaching and learning. The work is anticipated to be completed before students, teachers, and staff return from the break.
During this time, community members may notice equipment and temporary fencing in the front area of the school as Cornerstone Earth Group, the district’s geotechnical engineering firm, conducts excavation work to study subsurface conditions.
The work area will be fenced off and secured to ensure safety throughout the investigation.
Why This Work Is Needed
Trenching allows geologists to examine soil layers and subsurface conditions to determine whether active fault traces are present on the site and where safe building areas may exist. This information will be used to guide future planning and comply with California school construction safety requirements.
What Happens Next
The trenching work is one step within the broader seismic study required under state regulations. Findings from this investigation will be analyzed by geotechnical experts and shared with the district as part of the overall fault study process.
The district will continue to keep the Board of Education and community informed as this work progresses.
