Our 4th and 5th graders were surprised with a guest speaker from our very own NASA Ames Research Center. He is Alex Borlaff who has a masters in Physics and a PhD in Astrophysics. Currently, he is training to be an astronaut. In addition to this, he studies the evolution of galaxies, helps to build new space telescopes, and repairs the ones that are already in space.

The students were so excited and could not ask him enough questions. We are so grateful to the Half Moon Bay Library (San Mateo County Libraries) and their NASA partnership to provide this opportunity to our students.

Here’s what he had to say about our students:
“I have to admit, that I was absolutely impressed by the students. They were
curious, participative, and overall, their base knowledge was far beyond my own at
their age! The teachers and the community specialist at the Pescadero High School
and Elementary School are doing a fantastic job. Congratulations!”
